Macramé is the art of making new designs by simply knotting. It can be called the best time pass activity. Children can try this method during summer vacations when they are free and keep looking for some source for passing their time. The technique of macramé does not require much expertise as it can be practiced by those who are not crafty. Kids can learn some simple macramé techniques and make several beautiful items. Children above eight will easily grasp these techniques, but those below them would need some assistance. So it is better than their parents sitting with them and helping them in their work. Here is discussed a simple process of making a key chain.
The time required will be one hour, and supplies would be beads, key ring, etc. The steps are-
- Take jute and cut into two cords with the length of around one and a half yards, and the second is of two and a half. Both strands are folded in half. Take the keyring and pass folded ends down from the key ring. The ends of the cord are pulled down with a strain through the loop made by the folded ends.
- The key ring and the two shorter middle strands are fixed to the board with tape.
- The left strand is passed over the two strands by making a loop on the left side and under the extreme right strand. It will make the shape of number four.
- The right strand is passed below the middle two and over the left one. Pull the outside cords and tighten the knot.
- Add a bead after making it off the desired length by sliding it into center cords. If the bead is large enough, then pass it through four cords. If otherwise, make a knot of the rest two to wrap it around the bead and continue further.
You can also make several other items and show your creativity.
